check up

had my weekly check up today, and baby is doing well. had a nice steady heart rate of 140. he's pretty mellow in there, just chillin' and occasionally giving me a nice kick to remind me he's around (not that i'd forget, being the size i am). he's dropped quite low now, and is definitely head down. could actually be any time now, although it would be nice to finish clinicals.

the play group is not open tomorrow, so i am going to attempt to finger paint with clay. i shall have to post pics. i have my old newsprint from art college, so those sheets will be nice and big. its supposed to be washable paint, so my floors shouldn't be destroyed if he gets anything on it. at any rate, it should be fun. with school, i don't get to spend as much fun time with clay as i'd like to. i'll be glad when i graduate.

at the moment, i should be doing research for a paper that is due on thursday, but i've hit a standstill and am taking a break. but now i should get back to work.

adieu for now,

three more weeks to go!!!

i'm still hanging in there... albeit bigger and bulkier. the last few weeks have been spent writing papers for school, but those are done now and i can heave a big sigh of relief... for now. don't have much left to do to get ready, although i'm attempting to make a curtain to go in front of the changing table (were most of his clothes will be stored) and am on a hunt to find a little vintage table to store socks and nappies.

clay is still unsure that he wants to share his mommy and daddy with anyone else; he's gotten quite possessive. hopefully, he'll like his new brother. clay is growing up so fast! he's getting very tall (and skinny), like his daddy. he's been very imaginative lately, telling me long, detailed stories about his toys, especially his toy trucks, which he loves. oh and we mustn't forget his toy trains. thomas and the other train... he even kisses them good night.

we went to a play day at the sports center. he loved it, so i think we'll keep going. this monday, however, of course, i was busy, but plan on going again soon. its a huge room full of toys and slides and he can run as much as he wants. he can also make as big a mess as he wants and not have to clean it up. he was having so much fun last week that he turned down his snack, which is unheard of for clay! like his dad, he can eat extraordinary amounts of food and not gain an ounce. me on the other hand... (sigh).

i think tonight i will sit and relax and just enjoy watching him for the evening. it is much more relaxing than studying. :) i want to be sure i spend lots of time with him before the baby is born, so he doesn't feel left out. he is used to having all the attention.

adieu for now!

5 more weeks to go!!!

only five more weeks til baby is due. i can't wait. i feel big and awkward; like a big walrus. if i sprout flippers and tusks, i won't be at all surprised. baby is starting to feel crowded and i think is trying to kick his way out sometimes. every once in a while, i'll get a particularly forceful jab from within, reminding me that i'm not the only one who's waiting until d-day. :)

i was looking at a website that gives helpful suggestions to expectant moms, and one of them was to wear satin pajamas or have satin sheets so that you could slide in and out of bed more easily. this sounds like a good idea til i think about how heavy i feel. i wonder if when i got into bed, if i would just continue sliding on those wonderfully slippery satin sheets and fly off the other side with the speed of a torpedo. so it's no to satin sheets. i'll take my chances with cotton for now. although, getting up is the awkward part. remember the weeble wobbles that kids used to play with about 30 years ago? well, anyway, they never fall over, they just wobble from side to side. well, that's kinda how i have to get up... wobble from side to side a bit to get momentum, and then haul myself upright. after this momentous amount of effort, i have to sit at the side of the bed and then finally, i can stand up. talk about work.

we are mostly ready, at any rate... just have to get a few odds and ends. but it's better this time; i know what i want and what is really necessary this time. :)

well, i'm off for now. clay has just discovered my back pack and has taken everything out and i have to go retrieve everything.

kids are so honest...

the other day, clay was looking at me, and i said, "clay, does mommy have a big belly?"

he looked at me and said, very seriously, "no. mommy has a big butt!"

lovely. thankfully, my belly is bigger, though. six more weeks to go!! woot! i should really post some big mama belly pics up here so you can see how big that belly is. people seem to think i'm going to pop at any moment.

well, i'm off for the night. just had to post some of the cute stuff clay says. i just hope he doesn't tell anyone else they have a big butt.
